Art Mlýn Bohuslavice (Czech Republic) is all in one creative centre, museum, and accommodation.
A former water mill whose history dates back to the early 17th century lies in South Moravia region nearby city of Kyjov. As a mill it was closed in fifties last century and more than five decades later was partially open for public as a space for artistic, theatrical, musical, and other creative activities.
A centre for creativity
A second life was breathed into this mill by the artist, actor, and director originally from Russia, later living in Poland and currently in Czech Republic, Wladimir Abramuszkin, along with his wife Eva, who established the foundation of a creative community. Through their work they enrich the fascinating environment of the last of the five mills in Bohuslavice and inspires the exploration of history and the realization of educational and cultural activities such as exhibitions, art workshops for schools and creative individuals or support for volunteering.
In June 2014, the ART Museum of Legends was opened here as a permanent exhibition presenting the history of the mill in the context of broader historical events and legends (e.g., the miller’s conversation with Napoleon), along with an interactive exhibition on the history of washing and weighing, complemented by period artifacts. Visitors can thus symbolically immerse themselves in the past.
Point on a tourist map
Small part of the mill offers unforgettable and authentic accommodation for visitors in Moravian countryside. The locality offers many possibilities for slow and responsible travelling by supporting small local food or wine producers. The South Moravian region is renowned for quality cycling paths but also offers many routes for light hiking.
Art Mlýn is also a safe space for community gathering which is embraced by various events. One of these events is interactive folklore festival Mlýnské kolo (Mill Wheel) which held regularly in August and BizGarden took part on the last one, already eighteenth one in a row. The festival presents regional culture at its best, showcasing folk groups from the region through singing performances, history through an old photos’ exhibition, and guided tours of the Art Mlýn.
DIH 4.0 has been collaborated with Art Mlýn for a long time. Withing the project Digi Tour they were given a creative voucher to support their presentation skills and rebranding of their website. Currently, the Art Mlýn is a partner for the Capacity2Transform (Interreg Central Europe) project which aims for digital, green transformation. It connects several areas of project´s interest. It is a small family business that has a lot to offer but needs to become more well-known in the area, embraced their position as a touristic goal and connect with others within region.
